So, I have been told by my mother that I am not allowed to play first-person shooters on my computer. I find this ridiculous, especially since I still play FPS's on my PS2.
My mom believes that people who play games with guns will think that guns are a good way to solve problems. And when I pulled the studies that say gun violence has decreased since FPS's were released, she flat out told me "I don't believe them."
So what do you guys think on the subject?

So what do you guys think on the subject? well, my parents personally don't care as long as i do good in school. but i would only think an idiot would think that gun-killing is good. also, if you are a fair age to be playing games like this, your parents should trust you. because if they raised you right, you wouldn't have that type of thinking.

Guns in Games = Guns in Movies = Guns in Music
only the blind and intellectually incapable are influenced.
your mother is being very close minded.

How old are you? 17? Your mom won't let you play certain games?

I'm 16, and yeah. But it's okay now because my dad said it's okay. My parents are a little odd.

In my opinion, there's a world of difference between killing someone in a game and killing someone in real life - I'm perfectly happy to shoot people in the head in cs but in real life I very much doubt I'd be able to bring myself to pull the trigger even in self defence, let alone with malicious intent. A game is never going to be the same as real life - no matter how realistic the graphics and how immersive the virtual reality.
